Editorial policy
How we decide what to publish, how we check it, and what to do if we get something wrong.
1. Who publishes Be Cool News
Be Cool News is published by Be Cool Group UK Ltd, which trades as Be Cool Refrigeration: a family-run air conditioning and refrigeration contractor in London, trading since 2004, F-Gas certified and Refcom registered. The site is paid for by that business. There is no outside owner, investor or sponsor.
2. What we cover
- News: government announcements, regulation, refrigerants and equipment changes that affect people who own or rely on air conditioning and refrigeration.
- Weather: what heatwaves, cold snaps and storms mean in practice for this equipment, based on Met Office and UK Health Security Agency information.
- Guides: practical explainers on how systems work and what the rules require.
- Roundups: numbered lists of equipment, chosen under the rules in section 7.
- Lighter stories: true and verifiable stories with a funny or surprising side. We never make fun of injuries, deaths, customers or named small businesses.
3. Who is accountable for each article
Every article names the member of the Be Cool team responsible for it, and that name links to a profile with their job and the qualifications they hold. Profiles list only qualifications the person has confirmed to us. Where an article covers refrigerant handling, F-Gas rules, safety or how equipment works, it is checked by an F-Gas certified engineer before publication, and the reviewer is named on the article when they are a different person from the author.
4. How we use technology
We use software tools, including AI writing and research assistants, to help find sources, draft and check some articles. Tools never decide what we publish. Facts are checked against the original source, and the named team member is responsible for what appears under their name. Some article images are illustrative and made with image generation software. They never show our staff, our customers or real jobs, and they are never used as evidence of anything.
5. Where our facts come from
- We cite primary sources, mainly UK government publications: legislation.gov.uk, gov.uk, the Health and Safety Executive, the Met Office and similar public bodies.
- Every source we rely on is linked in the article and listed at the end of it.
- We quote official wording exactly where the precise words matter, such as dates, thresholds and eligibility rules.
- If we cannot verify a fact from a reliable source, we leave it out.
- When a point comes from our own engineering experience rather than a published source, we say so, and we never present it as industry data.
- We do not invent quotes, statistics, customer stories or case studies.
6. Our commercial interest
We are a contractor, not an independent publisher. We supply, install and repair the kind of equipment we write about, and articles end with a way to contact Be Cool Refrigeration. That is how the site pays for itself.
- We do not accept payment, free products or other benefits for coverage, links or positions in roundups.
- There is no advertising and no affiliate linking on this site.
- When a story is about Be Cool Group itself, it says so at the top and sits in the Be Cool Announcements section.
- We do not publish rankings or reviews of air conditioning or refrigeration companies, because we are one.
7. How we choose products for roundups
- We only include equipment our engineers have installed, serviced or repaired.
- For each product we explain what it is good at, what to watch out for and who it is not for.
- No manufacturer or supplier pays to be included, or to change its position.
- Positions reflect our judgement for the use the roundup describes, not a laboratory test, and we say so.
8. Dates and updates
Every article shows the date it was published. If we add or change information afterwards, the article shows an updated date alongside the original one. Regulation and guidance change, so check the linked official source before acting on an older article.
9. Corrections
- If you think something is wrong, email [email protected] with the link to the article and what you think is wrong.
- We aim to acknowledge it within five working days.
- If we confirm an error of fact, we correct the article and add a dated note at the end saying what changed. We do not quietly rewrite mistakes.
- If an error is serious, for example about safety or a legal requirement, we correct it as a priority.
10. Complaints
If you are unhappy with an article or with how we handled a correction, email us with "Complaint" in the subject line. A senior member of the team who was not involved in the article will look at it and reply. Complaints about personal data are covered by our privacy policy.
11. Not professional advice
Articles are general information. They are not legal, tax or engineering advice for your specific site, and they do not replace a qualified engineer visiting your equipment. Work on systems containing F gas must by law be done by suitably qualified people.
